Board of Directors


JOAN CASSELLS
Joan graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee and continued her education at Florida State University where she received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Spanish with additional graduate work in the area of Humanities. Most of her professional career has been in the field of education, teaching Spanish and Humanities at the high school, community college, and the university levels. While teaching in high school, she was named Teacher of the Year and was also awarded Spanish Teacher of the Year for the State of Florida. She has traveled extensively throughout the world, and she has developed travel/study programs to Europe and Latin America for many years and has led numerous academic tours for students as well as cultural tours for adults. She recently retired from Florida State University where she was a faculty member and served as Assistant Director of International Programs. Joan is married to Leon Cassels, and they have four daughters, four sons-in-law, and two grandsons. She and Leon have been long-time members of First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, and they both enjoy taking classes at the Center for Biblical Studies.

GARY GRIFFIN
Gary is a 1971 graduate of FSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. He retired after 33years of service with the US Treasury Department in 2007 and has been enrolled as a student at the Center for Biblical Studies since January 2008. He has served as a Deacon and an Elder at Faith Presbyterian Church as well as a lay preacher at the Seafarer’s Chapel at Shell Point (since 1988) and in several Tallahassee area assisted living facilities. He is an avid long distance runner and Master Gardener.

DARLENE HEINRICH
Dr. Heinrich earned her B.S. in Elementary Education at the State University of New York at Geneseo, her M.S. in Educational Research at Bucknell University, and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at Florida State University. She also received a Diploma in Biblical Studies from Holmes College of the Bible. Darlene was the co-Founder and initial Director of the Center for Biblical Studies (1988–94), and is currently serving as a Senior Management Analyst II in Planning and Evaluation for the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.

MARIAN S. JOHNSON
Marian is currently the co-Pastor of River of Life Church of God in Starke, FL, and is the founding president and present CEO of GRACE Restoration Ministries, Inc. Marian is also serving as the Director of the Altrusa Chamber of Commerce.




HERB McRAE
Herb is a long-time resident of Tallahassee and a former business owner in partnership with his wife, Carol. He is a member of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church and enjoys serving the young church in a variety of ways. He leads a weekly Bible study for his Good Samaritan home group and is involved in two small study groups for men … one for over 25 years. He has been fascinated with the Beatitudes since surrendering his life to Christ at the age of 46 and has written the book “The TRUTH Revealed in the Eight Beatitudes”.

EMILY MOORE
Emily earned her B.A. at Agnes Scott College and her J.D. at Florida State University College of Law. Emily has worked with the Florida Division of Retirement, Florida Department of Management Services, Office of the General Counsel; the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, Office of the Secretary; the Florida Department of Business Regulation; and the Advocacy center for Persons with Disabilities. She is currently serving as Staff Counsel with the Florida Education Association, Legal Services Department. With her husband, Bishop Darrin Rich, she coordinates the Deeper Life Christian Center, a book-chapter-verse Bible-based training ministry.

IVEY WILLIAMS III
Pastor Williams earned his B.S. in Speech Communications from FSU. He is a Counselor/Advisor and Coordinator for the Florida College Preparatory Program (C-PREP) at Florida A & M University, and is ordained in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Lagos, Nigeria). He is the founding USA coordinator of the Throneroom Trust Prophetic Prayer Ministry of North America.

MEMBER EMERITUS: Joe Arnett
Joe is a professional engineer with an extensive knowledge of the business world. He came to this region to found Quincy Fibers and later served as President of Engineering Investigations; a business in forensic engineering. He is an active member of his congregation, teaches a Bible Study for men, is a member of the vestry, and has faithfully served a variety of leadership roles within the church. He is an avid reader, has a major interest in history, and has written an extensive volume on the Civil War.

MEMBER EMERITUS: Angela Poole
Angela earned her B.A. in Accounting and Business Administration from Florida A&M University, and her M.Acc. from Florida State University. She received an honorarable Doctorate of Divinity from the International Association of Independent Clergy in recognition of her contributions to the church in the areas of ministry administration and leadership. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors at the Center for Biblical Studies, she is also on the Boards of Keiser College, Stronger Faster Smarter Foundation, Inc., Southeast Community Builders, Inc., and the City of Tallahassee Audit Committee.

MEMBER EMERITUS: Joan West
Joan earned her A.B. in English Literature at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, an M.M. in Music History at Florida State University, and an M.A. in Classical Philosophy at the University of Delaware. In addition to her work on the Board of Directors for CBS, she currently serves on the following boards: Florida Heritage Foundation; Tallahassee Music Guild; The Artist Series; The Museum of Art Angels, Inc.; and The National Museum of Women in the Arts Florida Committee.

CENTER PRESIDENT: Mrs. Jo Anne Arnett
Jo Anne is President and Co-Founder of the Center for Biblical Studies, a venture in faith and servant ministry to the Body of Christ. It is her desire to be fully available to the Lord; to allow Him to live and move through her in a way that will bring Him honor; to let Him choose the “what, when, where and how” of her life; and to be rightly related to others. Jo Anne serves on the Board of Directors of Mission Tallahassee, and of Pray Tallahassee. She is an active member of her church, Prayer Coordinator for the U.S. Strategic Prayer Network and a member of the Tallahassee Pastor’s Council. She is married to Joe Arnett, has two children and five grandchildren.
