Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies (with Emphasis in One of Eight Academic Tracks) Each applicant for admission to the M.A. program must have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Individual course requirements may vary depending upon a combination of credits transferred, experience, and the call for which one is being prepared. A total of 36 semester credits with a “B” average, equaling 108 quality points, must include completion of all core and other coursework that is required by the degree being sought. Up to three semester hours of half or one-day seminars may be included in this program. Any course yielding a minimum grade of “D” will not be included in this calculation and should be retaken through the forgiveness policy. One semester hour credit is granted for every fifteen class/contact hours.Emphasis through a major in your field of interest, such as Biblical Studies, Old Testament Studies, Ministry and Leadership, Theology, New Testament Studies, Missions and Evangelism, and Biblical languages will be designed on an individual basis. An emphasis in Ministry and Leadership includes the area of Biblical Counseling. A full time student may complete this degree within one academic year. Candidates who choose to submit a thesis will do so in acceptable form and quality and under the direction of a major professor and assigned committee. Areas of study with specific course requirements are listed below. Master of Arts Degree The Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies will benefit both laity and those who are pursuing ordained ministry. Individual course requirements may vary depending upon the combination of credits transferred, experience, and the call for which one is being prepared. Major areas of emphasis include: Biblical Studies, Old Testament Studies, New Testament Studies, Christian Counseling, Missions & Evangelism, Ministry & Leadership, Theology, and Biblical Languages. Seminars carrying partial credit may be combined to form up to three graduate credit hours. The thesis option will be granted in Biblical Studies, Old Testament Studies, and New Testament Studies only. All other tracts require the utilization of all 9 hours of electives in one area of concentration. Seminary Track A seminary track non-degree program is offered for students wishing to complete up to first year seminary in Tallahassee before transferring to another seminary. An individually designed seminary track will be designed for students seeking ordination. The Center for Biblical Studies and Trinity School for Ministry have entered an agreement to work together for the provision of graduate-level transcript credit for designated courses. These courses are marked in the catalog, require an additional fee, and are transcripted by Trinity ESM, which is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (A.T.S.). Entrance Requirement Each applicant for admission to the Center for Biblical Studies’ Masters of Arts program must have a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent. Meet with an Academic Advisor Students are urged to make an appointment with an Academic Advisor as soon as possible to develop a personalized plan of study for current and future semesters.
